Burnout and turnover: why you should grow employees from within

Burnout and turnover: why you should grow employees from within

Most likely you do not have a people problem. You have a development problem.

In our field (construction) many companies look for "ready-made" employees. But there are few of them, and they are often not our kind of people.

The solution is to grow from within. Yes, it takes longer. But it is more reliable.

What we started doing

  • Onboarding plans — so we do not lose newcomers in the first two weeks.
  • Individual development plans — so we guide people, not just demand from them.
  • A simple mentoring system — every strong foreman "grows" his own replacement.
  • Growth from within — recently an assembler's assistant became a foreman, and a foreman became a site manager.
  • Learning through practice — not lectures, but work with feedback on site.

What it delivers

  • Less turnover.
  • Fewer "fires" on site.
  • More engagement.
  • And most importantly — a team you can genuinely rely on.

Leadership is not a hunt for superheroes

It is creating the conditions in which ordinary people grow into responsible, strong professionals.

This is the tenth company where I am building internal training.

Are you building a growth system inside your team — or still waiting for "perfect" people from the market?
